Principal's Spotlight on Learning

What’s Up with Early Release Wednesdays?
You may wonder why students are dismissed 40 minutes early on Wednesdays. This schedule change, made a few years ago, allows our staff at Columbus Elementary to engage in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

PLCs are teams of teachers who collaborate regularly to enhance student learning and improve teaching practices. During these sessions, our Columbus educators focus on key areas such as analyzing student data, setting goals, and sharing effective strategies to ensure all students thrive. They tackle essential questions like: What should students learn? How will we know if they’ve learned it? What do we do if they haven’t? What if they already know it? This continuous, data-driven process is central to improving instruction for all students.

In the first five weeks of school, Columbus teachers have worked on building our Championship Vision, establishing our collective commitments, and setting goals. In addition, they’ve been analyzing student and grade-level data to provide tailored interventions for each child’s academic needs.

Columbus Elementary’s Championship Vision:
We will foster a collaborative community to ensure all students are achieving at high levels.
